Middle School Robotics Coach
Packer’s Middle School Robotics Coach is responsible for fostering development in students of diverse age, skill, and experience levels. In addition to supporting students at team competitions, the coach facilitates twice weekly practices for the Middle School team members. Coaches may also be asked to perform various duties as needed to support the overall functioning of the robotics program.
Essential Functions
Co-facilitating regular Middle School team practices two days per week
Attending additional practice sessions as needed to prepare students for competitions
Chaperoning weekend robotics tournaments
Serving as a judge and/or providing coaching during competitions
Cultivating positive working relationships with administrators, parents/guardians, and students
Continuing to reinforce and ensure alignment with Packer’s priorities around diversity, equity, racial and economic justice
Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Reporting all student injuries, accidents, and illnesses as soon as possible
Participating in and maintaining order during periodic fire safety drills
Providing additional support as needed
Facilitating the best possible experience and supporting the personal goals of each student.
Qualifications
A working knowledge of robotics systems, programming, and competition formats (e.g., FIRST LEGO League, VEX Robotics)
A bachelor's degree (or current enrollment in a college program)
Minimum 2 years of competition experience in high-school and/or college robotics (preferred)
Availability to work evenings and weekends, including occasional overnights
Excellent verbal, written, organization, and management skills
Familiarity with local and regional norms, as well as national robotics competitions
Patience, enthusiasm, and versatility working with students of all skill levels
