Upper School Mathematics Teacher
The Packer Collegiate Institute invites applications for a full-time Upper School Math Teacher for the 2026–27 academic year.
Anticipated start date: August 2026
This position includes teaching four sections of Upper School mathematics and advising a small group of Upper School students. The teacher works closely with members of the Math Department and the grade level advising team to design coherent, student-centered learning experiences grounded in clearly defined skills and standards.
Primary Responsibilities
Teach Upper School mathematics courses aligned to departmental and school wide skills and standards.
Design instruction that emphasizes mathematical reasoning, problem solving, conceptual understanding, and clear communication of thinking.
Use shared skills and standards to plan instruction, assess student learning, and provide meaningful feedback.
Implement inquiry-based and student-centered instructional practices.
Differentiate instruction to support a wide range of learners and learning profiles.
Advise a small group of Upper School students and support their academic, social, and emotional growth.
Communicate clearly and consistently with students and families about learning progress and demonstrated skills.
Collaborate with Math Department colleagues on curriculum development, vertical alignment, and assessment practices.
Engage in ongoing reflection and professional growth.
Participate actively in work related to equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Teaching Approach and Mindset
The ideal teacher values clarity of learning goals and uses skills and standards to make expectations transparent for students. Instruction reflects curiosity, collaboration, and persistence. Teaching practice responds to student thinking and supports ownership of learning.
Qualifications
At least three years of math teaching experience, with at least two years at the middle or upper school level.
Ability to teach all secondary mathematics courses through calculus.
Experience with or strong interest in inquiry-based and student-centered teaching.
Experience developing and refining curriculum to engage diverse learners.
Understanding of the cognitive, social, and emotional development of Upper School students.
Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and reflective practice.
Commitment to anti-bias and anti-racism work and to building an inclusive school community.
Interest in and readiness for advising Upper School students
A master’s degree preferred.

Salary: Salaries follow a scale based on years of teaching experience and level of education.
