Assistant Lower School Science Teacher
The Packer Collegiate Institute invites applications for a full time Assistant Lower School Science Teacher.
Anticipated start date: August 2026
The Assistant Lower School Science Teacher works in close partnership with the Lower School Science Teacher to support instruction, student learning, and classroom culture across the science program. This role focuses on supporting inquiry-based science instruction, engaging directly with students, and helping create a safe, organized, and inclusive learning environment grounded in clearly defined skills and standards.
Responsibilities
Support the implementation of Lower School science lessons aligned to Packer’s curriculum, skills, and standards.
Engage actively with students during whole group instruction, small group work, and hands-on investigations.
Provide one-on-one and small group support to reinforce learning and meet diverse student needs.
Assist with classroom management, routines, and transitions to ensure a productive learning environment.
Support inquiry-based instruction, including preparation, setup, and breakdown of labs and investigations.
Observe and document student learning and engagement as assigned.
Prepare and maintain instructional materials and classroom resources.
Collaborate closely with the Lower School Science Teacher, specialists, and administrators.
Participate in professional development, meetings, and required trainings.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Education, Science, or a related field preferred.
Experience working with elementary-aged students in an educational setting.
Interest in science education and inquiry-based learning.
Ability to support a range of learners with patience, care, and flexibility.
Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.

Salaries are determined based on a scale reflecting years of teaching experience and level of education.

Established on Joralemon Street in 1845, our school is located on a unique and historic campus. The Packer Early Learning Center, one block away at 100 Clinton Street, houses our Pre-K and Kindergarten classes.
